Why yes, that is Alex Rodriguez bunting. Third baseman playing waaaay back… he would’ve had a hit if it hadn’t gone foul. It’s smart, I guess.

Still. ALEX. RODRIGUEZ. BUNTING. He has not had a sacrifice bunt since 1999, by the way.

    Hey, you take what they give you. A-Rod doesn’t even get an overshift. I’ve seen slow guys like Big Papi bunt down the third-base line for base hits–I’m not sure, but I think Papi might’ve even gotten to second base on a bunt once because the first guy that could get to it was the left fielder. If so, though, it would’ve had to have been a road game–there’s no way he could get to second base on a grounder to the left side at Fenway. Come to think of it, it was probably at the Trop, given the overdramatic shift Maddon employs with lefty power hitters.
